2011 - The Year That Was

In 4 days, the year 2011 will end. 2012 will be coming and some may say that the end is near! For me, life goes on. If the Mayans were correct and the whole world does end, well, there's nothing you can do about it. If the world DOES NOT end however, and you've lived like there's no tomorrow, that's when the problems will start. So, since I'm an optimist, I'll treat it like any other year.

Let's leave 2012 until it comes. What about 2011? How was your year? Mine was pretty ho-hum. The first half of the year was kinda bad for me. The second half was better. So what did I do? Here's a very brief breakdown:

Early in 2011

- The Sony Alpha Convention returned after a 3 year absence. Hooray! Scaled down but still a convention nonetheless.

- Bought my 85mm f2.8 lens for a steal. Got it secondhand from a fellow Sony Alpha user who had no use for it when it was out of stock almost everywhere else.

- Job started to suck big time.

- The biggest catastrophe ever for the year: Japan's earthquake and tsunami plus a nuclear reactor meltdown!

Middle of 2011

- Went to PC Fair. Yes. I make an effort to go to every PC Fair, every year. Don't know when it started. Don't care either.

- Got introduced to SNSD! Yup! That K-Pop group with 9 uber good looking ladies - Girls' Generation! I'm an instant fan.

- Shot a pre-wedding for my friend of 25 years.

- Job started sucking so much that I finally threw in the towel. Couldn't take it anymore. Some people are never meant to be managers.

- Malaysia's biggest event for the year took place - the Bersih 2.0 rally.

- Found new job.

Towards the end of 2011

- Attended all kinds of fairs and exhibition. Took photos and most important of all, had fun!

- Bought another Sony camera: The WX 7 compact. Great cam for the casual user. The wife uses it most times.

- Went to Cameron Highlands for a little trip. Couldn't schedule an overseas trip.

- Went to Comic Fiesta. Couldn't get in but got a chance to shoot cosplayers.

So the biggest change in 2011 is my change of jobs. It's all for the better so life has been kind to me and I'm grateful. Here's looking forward to 2012 with better things in store. I've got quite a lot of photography plans lined up as early as January 2012. Starting with my first ever model shoot on Jan. 8th with a lovely, lovely model. Stay tuned!
